No, this is not a problem. When the mattress is used in conjunction with a Sleeping Bag, the clinical studies show that the PurFlo mattress makes a sleeping bag more thermally efficient. Thus the baby is warmer in a cool room and cooler in a warm room.

All of the clinical trials were done using a sleeping bag. The nature of the mattress surface wraps the sleeping bag closer round the baby keeping him warmer than on a normal mattress with traditional bedding.

The PurFlo cot mattress consists of a fully-permeable, fully washable foam-free mattress fitted over a hollow frame. It is made from polyester, which because it is naturally fire retardant, means it doesn't require any sort of chemical treatment.

The current advice from the Foundation for the Study of Infant Death Syndrome (FSIDS) is to avoid using loose bedding with young babies. However, if you would prefer to use a sheet, PurFlo offer a 100% organic washable cotton sheet to fit over the mattress. This can be used in conjunction with the SleepSac and can be used from birth. After the first 12 months of use from birth, the risks of SIDS reduces dramatically and if desired, conventional bedding may be used with this mattress (feet to foot) – but we would still recommend a sleeping bag which eliminates any risk from loose bedding.

While there are other anti-allergen mattresses claiming to be allergen-free on the market, the PurFlo cot mattress is the only one you can wash completely. This removes dust mites and their excreta, which are known to aggravate childhood conditions such as asthma and eczema.

The PurFlo cot mattress has been designed with busy parents in mind. It takes only a matter of minutes to assemble.

The mattress does not sag; it conforms better to baby's shape than a conventional mattress, giving support exactly where it is needed for a growing baby.

We recommend it up to 30 kg which is around the average weight of an eight year old.

In-house tests show these to be just as effective with a PurFlo mattress, but it is advisable to check with the supplier of the monitor. However we do recommend the Respisense monitor. http://www.respisense.com/en/index.php

The PurFlo cot mattress has been clinically proven in trials by Peter Fleming, Professor of Infant Health and Developmental Physiology at Bristol University to help your baby regulate its temperature more effectively than conventional mattresses when slept in a sleeping bag. Its hollow surface allows the air to pass freely around the baby at all times, which is ideal for new-borns, where it is particularly important that they don't get too hot or cold.

Just slip off the outer cover of the PurFlo cot mattress and put it into the washing machine. Washing at up to 60c guarantees that all dust mites are removed - making it the most hygenic baby mattress on the market.
